How I Became Perfect
By Richard Gunther
used to think I was a good child.
hardly ever in trouble at school.
when I met the 10 Commandments
didn't expect to find much wrong with me.
number One :
SHALL HAVE NO
GODS BEFORE ME"
wants us to love Him more
we love anyone, or anything else.
wants to be more important to us than
. . .
SHALL NOT MAKE FOR
ANY GRAVEN IMAGE"
"graven image" is something we can make,
kind of "graven image" many people make
a false idea of God.
is not Santa Claus,
doesn't live in the Land of Fluffy Bunnies.
people invent God they make a god after their own imagination . . . just like a
SHALL NOT TAKE THE
OF THE LORD YOUR GOD IN VAIN"
the slightest bit of disrespect is enough
break this one.
people, when they are angry,
abusive, actually swear with God's Name!
THE SABBATH DAY
KEEP IT HOLY"
many people, Sunday is just
day for work.
they use Sunday for anything but God.
way, they don't respect the day
YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER"
is no such thing as a perfect child.
parents will know this.
never respect and honour their parents
all things . . . so every child,
broken this commandment
some time or other.
SHALL NOT MURDER"
said hate is much the same as murder.
few people have only thoughts of love
the odd bit of dislike is enough -
someone a name,
them down . . .
has many shades.
SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY"
includes dirty thoughts,
SHALL NOT STEAL"
wanting to steal something
enough for God,
and never returning,
more than you should,
hasn't done it now and then?
SHALL NOT LIE"
may not tell big, obvious lies
sometimes people tell 'half-truths'
they don't say all they should,
they avoid saying something . . .
they are deliberately misleading.
can come in many different forms.
SHALL NOT COVET"
more than you need,
the latest, largest, newest . . .
is a little covetous at times.
now I saw that I had broken all ten
the Ten Commandments.
was guilty on ten counts.
sinner in God's sight.
weak and hopeless.
if I tried really hard to be good
knew I could never meet the standard set by God.
Law was perfect - and I was not.
God has made a way.
Jesus, the Son of God,
on the cross,
paid the full penalty for my breaking
the Ten Commandments.
all I have to do is put my trust in Jesus.
I trust in Jesus as my Saviour,
live for Him as my Lord,
will be saved from the penalty of breaking
Ten Commandment -
soon as I become a follower of Jesus,
extends the perfection of His own Son,
covers me, with the same perfection.
did I become perfect?
receiving from God
that He in His GREAT LOVE
wanting to give.
